About Me
Hello! My name is Alexa, and I’m a freshman at Dartmouth College. My hometown is Houston, Texas. I enjoy learning new things, spending time outdoors, and creating art/music.
Academic Interests
My academic interests include computer science, linguistics, economics, and digital design. I specialize in the intersection between computer science and linguistics, specifically in language models and natural language processing. I code in R, Python, Java, HTML/CSS, and am currently learning JavaScript. I intend to double major in computational linguistics and economics, with a potential minor undecided. My hobbies include film editing, digital art, sketching, playing viola, running, skiing, baking, volunteering, learning about environmental science, and writing fiction.
Specific topics I intend to pursue include but are not limited to: Data Analysis (Python R Excel), Technical Design (Autocad), Geospatial Analysis (ArcGIS), User-Experience Wireframing (UX)
Past Projects
I have done several projects and major extracurricular activities in the past. The following section summarizes these projects.
- Exploring the Relationship Between Socioeconomic Status and Air Quality by Zipcode in Houston. Conducted environmental research with mentors from local high school and the University of Houston.
- Identifying Semantic Drift Within the Latin Language from the 1st through 6th Centuries CE. Undertook independent research with Latin-focused language models and statistical analysis.
- She Wires Words: Empowering Girls in Tech. Founded a fiscally sponsored organization with 501(c)(3) nonprofit status. Provided technology resources to underrepresented groups in the tech workforce. Garnered 1.5M+ views and 4K+ follower base.
- Freelance Web Design. Built and designed websites for individuals and companies.
Art and Design
I have 5 years of experience with graphic design on Canva and Adobe InDesign. I additionally have experience with digital art software Procreate and Blender. My work is featured on Pixabay, a stock media website with 5B+ downloads. In addition, I have been the lead designer for an award-winning student creative magazine.
